Exploring together
The globe, available books and lessons can be explored without creating an account. Please do not enter a child’s name, email, school, address, photographs or other identifying details into our adult signup form or email messages. We do not provide child accounts or a public posting board in these experiences.
Work saved on your device
Some experiences save reading progress, visited places or activity choices in your browser’s local storage. These remain on that browser and device. Clearing the site’s storage in your browser removes them. A downloaded picture or take-home belongs on your device; downloading it does not submit it to us.
Optional recording
Some lessons offer a record-and-play-back activity. Recording starts only after you choose it and allow microphone access in your browser. These lesson recordings stay in the page’s memory for local playback and are not uploaded to us. Closing or reloading the page clears them. An adult can decline microphone permission and use the speaking or non-recording activity instead.
Letters for grown-ups
The optional email form is for adults using their own email address. It asks for an email address and an affirmative choice to receive a weekly idea and news of newly available books and lessons. We record that choice, its wording and date, confirmation status, and the signup page. We do not ask for a child’s information, an adult’s name or birth date.
When email delivery is available, a confirmation email asks you to verify the address before newsletters begin. Confirmation links expire after 48 hours. Each newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. The signup form tells you if delivery is not yet available and does not accept a subscription in that state.
Where adult email information goes
Adult subscription records are kept on our hosting server outside the public website files. Authorized Alexandria’s World administration can export the list to a private spreadsheet. List administration is handled through alexandriasworld1234@gmail.com. A newsletter delivery provider is not connected yet, so the new signup form is unavailable. We are preparing a MailerLite connection and will update this notice to describe that service before activating it. We do not sell the newsletter list. If we later connect a newsletter provider, this notice will identify the service and its purpose before that connection is used.
Leaving the list and requesting deletion
Use the unsubscribe link in a letter to stop future letters, or email us from the subscribed address. Unsubscribing removes the readable email address from the active subscription record; a minimal record of the opt-out and consent history remains. You can request access, correction or deletion by email. We may ask you to confirm control of the address so that we do not disclose or change another person’s information.
An earlier waiting-list form collected a name, email, role, optional message and IP address. Those records are kept separately and are not automatically enrolled in this newsletter. Email us to ask about a previous waiting-list entry.
Hosting, maps, fonts and embedded media
Loading a website involves technical requests such as your IP address, browser information and requested page. Our hosting services may keep operational and security logs. The site also loads resources from services that can receive this technical information, including Cesium and its map-imagery providers, OpenStreetMap map services, Google Fonts, and libraries delivered by CDNs such as jsDelivr, unpkg and cdnjs.
Some lessons offer embedded YouTube video. Playing third-party media connects to the provider and may involve its cookies, local storage and controls. Privacy-enhanced embedding does not eliminate every third-party data request. An adult should guide media use; lesson text and still-image alternatives support participation when media cannot play.
Grown-up reference and donation links lead to other services with their own privacy practices. We do not receive payment-card details entered on an external donation service. We do not add email-open tracking pixels to Letters from Alexandria’s World.
Children’s privacy
The email list is an adult service, separate from the child’s lesson activity. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where appropriate. A statement that a form is for adults is not a substitute for the protections required for children’s information.
